Broken and Blessed

Broken and Blessed      I hope you are having a great day today.   I have been going through some difficult times and have not done a lot of writing lately, but here are some thoughts that I have had lately on the subject of brokenness.    There is an interesting verse in the Bible that I read a long time ago. The verse is in the book of Matthew 21 and verse 44.   “Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken. If the stone falls on anyone, it will crush that person." (Matt. 21:44 GW Translation)   There are a couple of different ways to look at this verse.   This verse talks about two types of people, those who fall on the stone and those whom the stone falls on.   The first could either refer to someone who falls, or stumbles on the message of Jesus, or it could refer to someone who willingly falls, or submits to Christ.   When I first read this verse, I felt that it was referring to the brokenness that someone feels when the surrender their will and their pride

Gift#4: Inner Strength

I hope you are having a great day again today.   I am continuing with my series on gifts, and I have a few more gifts from God to talk about.   Again, I apologize for not writing blogs as often as I normally have in the past.    The next gift that I would like to talk about is another completely wonderful, awesome gift!   It is the gift of God’s strength during difficult times!   Life is often full of challenging times.   Some of the difficult challenges that we have in our life are caused by our own bad choices, some are caused by the bad choices of others, and some occur simply because we live in a fallen world.   I talked about a number of difficulties that I have endured in my life in the book that I was able to write called “ Recalculating, Redirecting ”.    I wrote that book to let people know of my struggles in life.   I think that whenever someone is involved in some sort of public ministry like I have done in the past, people may think that they consider themselves to

Gift #3: The Bible

I hope you are having a great day today.   I am continuing with my series on gifts, and I have a few more gifts to talk about.   Again, I apologize for not writing blogs as often as I normally have in the past. The next gift that I would like to talk about is another completely wonderful, awesome gift!   It is the gift of the Bible!   When I first became a Christian, the believers at a Church that I was attending at the time (Mount Olive Baptist Church in Goldsboro North Carolina) taught me that I needed to become a disciple of Jesus and develop disciplines in my life.   The four disciplines that they encouraged me to develop was Prayer, Bible study, Worship, and Witnessing.   Now that it is forty-seven years later, I am very thankful that I had those disciplines in my life!   I would like to encourage you to develop these disciplines in your life.   There are so many benefits to reading the Bible on a regular basis and I would like to go into detail on a few of those reas

Gift #2 Forgiveness

I hope you are having a great day today.  I started a new series of blogs with my last post, about some of my favorite gifts from God.  The first gift that I mentioned was “The gift of The Assurance of Heaven.”  I hope that it was a good reminder to you that if you are trusting in Jesus, then you can be absolutely sure that you will go to heaven when you die!  A loving and intelligent God (which He is), would never want you to be guessing where you were going to spend eternity!  I am thankful for the Bible which shows us the heart and the words of Jesus which remind us in John 14:3 “I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (KJV)        The next gift that I would like to talk about is another completely wonderful, awesome gift!  It is the gift of forgiveness from God that you experience when you first become a Christian and is a vital part of our ongoing relationship with the Lord and with

Gift #1 Assurance of Heaven

I hope you are having a great day today.   For those of you that have gotten a little attached to my blogs, sorry that I have not been writing as consistently as you may like.   I sometimes battle with feeling “worthy” of giving out any kind of advice, or encouragement.   To combat some of this – I generally stay away from subjects that I may not have had the best successes with. One thing that I do have is a number of years of having a personal, mutual relationship with God in Jesus Christ.   If you have read my blogs about my testimony, you will remember that I became a born-again Christian in 1976.   Since that time, I have thought a lot about the wonderful gifts that God has given to me and to everyone who knows Him.   That is the subject of this post and a few posts to come.    The first gift that I would like to talk about is a completely wonderful, fantastic, awesome gift!   It is the gift of knowing for sure, with absolute certainty, without any doubt that you are go

Happy Resurrection Day!

I hope you are having a great week.  It has been a while since I last posted.  Remember that this is my 41 st blog post, so if you are wanting to read more, please look through my older writings.  If you have read all of them – thank you.  Please send any feedback and comments to my email.   Since this Sunday is “Resurrection Day”, I would like to say a few things about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and how that put a stamp of approval on His incredible life. The resurrection is a powerful truth of the Christian faith.  Please remember that our faith is not based on someone else's ideas or conjecture, but it is based on the truth and facts of History!  Someone once said that our faith makes our belief real and that is not the case.  You may have been told that by someone who is peddling some half-truths.  Our faith in the facts of the Bible does not make it real – it makes it real to us.  As many have said, Jesus is the only religious leader who died and then brought hims
